Unloading

Our summer has been a tad bit busier than expected and therefore I am totally behind in my blog posting and continuing the moving-in story. Sorry!!

Okay, so let's see. Ahh, yes. My last post was about our "kind" landlord locking us out of the apartment! So, we got a good night's sleep and headed over to the apartment to be there when the movers arrived. We thought there would be at least 4 people coming to help unload our things. Much to our surprise, only two men got out of the truck. Two guys to unload all of our things in a day and a half and rebuild three wardrobes and two beds?!?! Did I mention they only work until about 3 and then knock-off for the day?!?

The first day went pretty smoothly. They managed to get most of our things moved in and even were kind enough to rebuild our beds, so we would have somewhere to sleep that night. We, of course, spent the day hiding in the kitchen, so we wouldn't be in the way. Ezekiel got to take his naps in the bathroom!!

The next day the guys quickly finished up unloading our things and then set out to rebuild 3 wardrobes. They spent most of the day working on the first 2 and were struggling with the 3rd. They put it together, but the drawers weren't going in correctly. They kept trying to figure it out and it kept getting later and later. They were supposed to head back to Rome that evening and were getting more and more tired and frustrated!

Finally, Stephen told them to go ahead and go and we would just put it together ourselves. The men laughed at Stephen and just keep saying, "come on Stephen, come on" in Italian. They were tired though and not looking forward to the 6 hour drive back to Rome, so despite their protest they quickly accepted.

After they left, Stephen and I laughed and laughed as we looked at the wardrobe. They had completely put it together backwards! The two of us took it apart and put it back together correctly. Now, we get a chuckle when we hear the phrase, "come on" in Italian. They didn't believe we could do it, but we did! This little, short girl and her husband put this big wardrobe back together. We felt pretty accomplished!
