So, like I said in my last post the trip up here was great. The kids were good and all in all it was a very uneventful trip. Our plan, when we arrived at our new apartment, was to just sweep and mop the floors before our things were moved the next day. Our new landlord was, also, going to stop by and maybe just say hello?!? We weren't quite sure why he wanted to stop by. We had the keys and had already signed the contract, so we didn't quite understand, but anywho why not?
So, 10-15 minuted prior to our ETA (estimated time of arrival) Amarissa announces that she needs to go potty. We gently reassured her that we were very close to our new home and asked her if she could just wait. She agreed that she could, but reminded us again that she really needed to go.
15 minutes or so later we arrive at our apartment. We all pile out of the car and head up to our new, 4th floor apartment. Stephen pulls out his keys (we had about 5 different sets..all different) and started trying them in the door. First set..nope. Second..nope. Third..goes to our other front door that is bolted from the inside...so nope. Fourth..nope. Fifth..you guessed it..nope!
At this point, we decide to go ask our door lady, if there is so trick to opening the door. She comes back upstairs to help us and give us the poor Americans they can't figure anything out speech. She, then, informs us that there is a key missing! A key missing?!? Wait the landlord was supposed to have already give us all the keys!
As, we try to figure out what to do next as Amarissa reminds us, again, that she really has to go potty. But, we don't have our landlord's number, so we have to call our real estate agent, who has to call the landlord's real estate agent who can then call our landlord. Our real estate agent gets right on it and promises to get back to us as soon as she can.
Our agent calls us back a few minutes later and we quickly find out that the landlord withheld a key from us!!! He did what?!? Yep!! He wanted to make sure he was there when we first walked into the apartment, so without telling anyone, he left out a key!!
So, now we have to wait for him to come! Amarissa still has to go potty, so our door lady graciously allows her to use hers, while muttering to herself about these poor, crazy Americans. After 45 minutes or so, the landlord made his appearance and claimed he has been in the city all day waiting for us.
By the time we walk through the apartment with him, we only had the energy to do a quick sweep and then we headed to the hotel for the night. The rest would have to wait until the next day.
